Who am I?

My name is Michael Severin and I am 18 years old. I have always loved photography but have just now gotten around to really pursuing my passion. The reason I love photography is because the world around me is beautiful and I want other people to be able to share my experiences through a photograph. I am trying to convey feeling, emotion, and meaning through my photography. I am always looking for new things and people to photograph so if you are ever in need of a photographer feel free to contact me via email at mrseverin09@hotmail.com

Waterfalls, Corn Stalks, and Late Night Fun

The past few days have been a lot of fun. My family came up for Parents weekend here at YHC and I made them hike the trail to High Shoals water fall. The trail was 1.2 miles each way and offered some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. These are a few pictures from the trail and one of the lower High Shoals falls. But this was just what I did on saturday.
Sunday I went out with a bunch of friends to another local waterfall. It was around 6:15 at night and light was at a minimum when I was taking these pictures. The Waterfall Picture is with a shutter speed of around 8 seconds just so I could use a low ISO and get enough light to see the waterfall. The long shutter speed pictures of cars are 30 second shutter speeds and was really fun to do because you never know when you will get a car and you never know where it will be when the shutter finally closes. Overall it was a really good weekend for fun and most importantly for Photography and family. I hope you enjoy. Click the Images for larger viewing.

My future

So I'm studying computer science and realized I will be spending the rest of my life around one thing, Computers. I was at home the other day and had two old computers in the basement that we were going to throw out, So i decided to completely take them apart before doing so. After taking them apart I decided the pieces would make some nice photos and would give me something to do. So here is just one of the shots of my future.
(and yeah I know I added some cheesy photoshop vignettes and stuff... I was really bored and wanted to mess around)

Brasstowm Bald

Its been a few days since I have put up a post so here one is. This was taken from the top of Brasstown Bald, the highest point in georgia. The first one is made of 8 pictures in a panorama which i had to hand stitch together so there is a little bit of warping at some points but its the best I can do with the software I have. The second one I was bored and got tired of taking pictures from left to right so I decided to take a "panorama" vertically.

A new beginning

So being in college is a great time for people to find out who they really are. Lately I have been struggling to figure out who I am or who I want to be (much less what I want to major in). The great thing about going to a small college like I am is that you really get to know everybody and see where you fit in. I have never really considered myself the kid that everybody wants to be with, nor am I the outcast, I am simply the kid that people know of but nobody knows what they are all about. Well there is one thing that I want everybody to know about me. I trust in God to lead me in life. This may seem weird to some of you who know me because I am not the most religious of people and I never really talk about my beliefs. However, I am a strong believer in Jesus Christ and I believe that there is an ultimate plan for me. Why am I telling you this? I am saying this because this is the beginning of a new type of blog for me. I am going to start updating more often (Or as often as I can) and every image is going to have a meaning to me and I will have a message to share with everybody. So for our first picture:
This was taken at a place called The Farm back in Conyers. This image is a few months old but it really has meaning to me now. The image is simply the hand of christ with a cross hanging from it. But what does it represent? To me the image is the story of christians everywhere. When christ died on the cross for us we were with him. We are the cross in this picture, forever with Christ and forever trusting in him. That is my image for today. it may not be spectacular but the message is strong.

Aquarium

So being in college is slightly interfering with my ability to take pictures very often. To put it in perspective it had been two weeks since I took a picture until this past weekend. This past weekend i decided to do something nice for my wonderful girlfriend Jamie so I took her to the aquarium in Chattanooga. She really wanted to go and I really wanted to take some pictures. *sidenote* It is very hard to get a clear crisp picture when you are shooting through 5 inches of glass.  But these are just a few of the better shots form the trip.

Anybody Hungry?

Alright so last week i had a pretty unique opportunity given to me. I was asked to help take pictures of some food for a BBQ place down in Swainsboro, Georgia called Wares BBQ. Wares has been in Swainsboro for a long time and is a landmark in the town. If you are ever in south Georgia I strongly suggest you go eat there. The food is great. Well here is a link to their website which will have my photos used for the food. www.waresbbq.com
The website should be up in a few days. Click for better viewing quality.

College Girls

Okay so it's time for college and everybody is getting all sad and depressed that they will "never" see their friends again. Well Jamie(my beautiful girlfriend) and her friends decided to let me take a few pictures of their second to last night together. These are just a few of the 76 images that came out of the night. I didn't have a cyc wall to work with so i rigged a setup in her basement on a plain wall and set up two flashes.
Enjoy
p.s. the quality is terrible because they are only 1 megabyte files
(had to make them small so the girls could put them online)

Hilton Head Island 2009

Hilton Head Island 2009... was a disappointment for pictures. Everyday was bad weather and I never got the opportunity to take some good pictures. These are some of the only photos I was able to take between the rain and stuff. Enjoy. Click for better quality.

Kacie's Senior Shoot

So I did some senior pictures for one of my friends Kacie and these are just a few of the many good shots we got. She was really easy to work with on location and in the studio because she was a natural at everything she did. I have to give credit to my wonderful assistants, Katie and Jamie, for helping me get these shots just right. I hope you enjoy them. Click for Better Quality.

Seamless White Wall Day 1

So a buddy and I decided to build a seamless white wall (cyc) wall in his basement. We found plans for one online for around $300 and decided we could build it for less and we did. How did we do it? Here is a list of the supplies. 1) 102" x 12yd Savage seamless white paper. $55.00 2)3/4in galvanized steel poll and two end caps. $25.00 3)Two giant carabiners. $5.00 4) Whiteboard. $15.00 Total cost $100 We put two hooks into the ceiling and clamped the carabiners onto them then ran the galvanized steel pole through them with the paper on it. Unroll the paper, lay the whiteboard on top of it and you have yourself a seamless whitewall. This is definitely not the best rig but it works great. We set up two SB-600's as back lights and used another SB-600 as our main. That is all the lighting we used since we can't afford giant 1600W alien bee's but it served the purpose. Here is a picture before photoshop and it again after phtotshop.

Once again these are just a few more pictures of the flowers in my yard that my dad works so hard on year-round.
